Fantastisch Fotograferen

Vorige, koude, natte, donkere, helemaal-geen-zomer week was heerlijk. Het was een week vol Fantastisch Fotograferen. Vijf lange dagen mocht ik me onderdompelen in de digitale en analoge fotografie aan The Fotofactory Amsterdam. En oh, wat was dat gaaf! Het fotograferen zelf is dat al, maar om zo inspirerend les te krijgen als Désirée Vroemen heeft gedaan, dat is de spreekwoordelijke kers op mijn (chocolade)taartje… Hoewel, het enige chocoladetaartje met een kers erop is zo’n Sachertorte… en daar ben ik nou weer net níet dol op, maar dat terzijde.

Echt genoten heb ik! En extra leuk omdat ik in september in principe ga beginnen aan hun driejarige opleiding. Spannend ook trouwens. Maar goed. Wat was het fantastische fotograferen dan? Te veel om op te noemen, maar voor mij was het naast de inspiratie van Cas, Janneke, Caroline, Tanja én Désirée vooral het analoog bezig zijn: de foto maken zonder dat je in het schermpje kan zien of het is gelukt (op de goede gok dus eigenlijk) en dan in de doka de afwachting of het rolletje er wel mét beeld uitkomt. De verrassing als je op je zelf ontwikkelde rolletje iets kan ontwaren, en dan een foto in het groot op papier zien verschijnen. Echt een fantastisch proces – een proces dat iedereen (weer) eens zou moeten meemaken. En – met heel spannend resultaat. Al vind ik het zelf

En vervolgens de tijd die we in de studio hebben doorgebracht: Low key en High key foto’s maken. Een low key foto is een heel donkere foto – maar wel goed uitgelicht. Dit houdt zoveel in als dat de foto bestaat uit veel echt zwart (niet dichtgelopen – jawel), en ook echt wit (niet uitgebeten) in zich heeft. Bij high key foto’s is het eigenlijk andersom: veel echt wit en goed echt zwart. Wil je er meer van weten? Lees er dan hier en hier meer over. Mijn Low Key resultaat is een zielig hertje… althans de overblijfselen van dat zielige hertje.

Vooral het feit dát ik dit zelf heb gemaakt is wat het voor mij zo bijzonder maakt. Dus: was dat Fantastisch Fotograferen, of niet?

Last rainy, dark, cold, not-at-all-summer week was spent learning. Learning about fantastic photography at The Fotofactory in Amsterdam. Together with Cas, Janneke, Tanja and Caroline I was taught the great ‘secrets’ of analogue and digital photography by the inspiring Désirée Vroemen. How wonderful and energetic this week was. Especially the analogue part of it: the anticipation of making an analogue photo and having to wait to see if there is any result – at all, the wonder of seeing an actual picture on the negative and the WOW-effect of developing the picture for real. It’s a thrilling process! One, anyone should go through in these digital days… Another great part of the week was going into the studio to create high key and low key pictures. My result you see here – a not so lucky deer I am afraid, but how wonderful it looks in my photo. As does Janneke in hers by the way. The fact that I made this myself, makes it Fantastic Photography to me – don’t you agree?

Portret & Zo in de Ouders van Nu!

Ha! Dat vind ik nou leuk: “zomaar” foto’s van mezelf in de Ouders van Nu zien! Nòg leuker is dat die foto’s van Pierrick zijn, mijn nu alweer 17+ maanden oude zoontje! En dat hij inmiddels kan lopen, en daar heel trots bij kijkt is natuurlijk helemaal fantastisch. Net als het heerlijke lenteweer van de laatste dagen. Geniet van al het heerlijks lieve mensen! Stormy Beach

Just a quick post to show the difference from one lovely beach day to the next. Storm, huge waves, foam, sand in our eyes, mouth, hair and everywhere else.. It was not to be compared with a week ago when it was sunny – spring time. BUT these were beachy moments nonetheless! And, like the lone wanderer, kite and wind surfers, we enjoyed them tremendously.

Beachy moments

What wonderful 2 days we had here in the Netherlands! And as it was the weekend, me and my family went to have a few beachy moments. The first of 2012. And so happy to live close to the sea and have those precious moments at the ready whenever I feel like having them. And living in the Netherlands, those ‘sunbaked’ beachy moments are rare – whether on cold days, or warm ones. It was a great cure against the ‘end-of-year’-blues I always suffer from in January. Having lost the Christmas tree for another 360some days always does that to me. The feeling of having lost something…. It takes a week or so and then I come to realize that there’s so much to look forward to in the upcoming year, and those beachy moments inspire the first of this year’s future memories: a weekend on the island Texel, skiing in Austria with my 6 and 3 year old, Philippine’s 7th birthday, Easter at my parents, Pierrick’s ever expanding vocabulary, dinners with friends, Josephine going to school when she turns 4 in May, Xavier’s birthday (alas, 42), Mother’s Day (and yes, the Father as well), ballet perfomance, summer holidays in spent in France (yes, another summer), me reaching the big 4 0, the biking evening at school, Pierrick’s 2nd birthday – by which he walks of course, Sinterklaas on the roof and then… Christmas … and much more.

But let us start at the beach, yesterday. Philippine was at a friend’s birthday party. So we went just the four of us (and about xx1000 other people, let’s not over-romantisize of course) for a stroll and a hot choclate, and apple crumble pie, and brownie at Tijn Akersloot and then back. Simple as that.
